Mary, the Mother of Jesus

A Virgin's Grief

Pastor Lutzer | December 28, 1997

Summary

Tragic events must be interpreted in light of the cross of Christ.

Selected highlights from this sermon

While Mary and Joseph fled to Egypt with their Son, King Herod massacred the infant boys of Bethlehem. Jesus escaped, but the boys of Bethlehem didn’t. From a heavenly perspective, Jesus was spared so that He could be the Redeemer of those slaughtered boys.

Seemingly senseless tragedies still occur today, and we can’t answer why each one takes place. However, we can be confident that God is still sovereign and that His providence is not thwarted.
